One day, we were driving to Tai O. The roads in the Luk Wu area are very narrow. As we were driving along, a large truck came towards us in the opposite direction. The driver-bosal next to me suddenly said, ‘it’s you again. This happens again. I need to drive my car up to Fat Hwa Yuen again to make way for him.’
Sifu said, 'Bosal, don’t think too much first.’
Before Sifu finished the sentence, the driver of the large truck had already made way for us.
Sifu then said, ‘Who is this victim? Where is he now?’
Commentary:
This is an example of ‘thinking too much’. This way of thinking also reflects the function of karma. The driver-bosal is used to putting himself into the position of a victim. Sometimes, when encountering problems, many people tend to be negative. They tend to think ´it’s me again’, ‘bad things happen only to me’. Actually, deep down, they have already set themselves up to be the victim.
Originally, nothing happened. But one thought can already make you miserable. Eventually, that moment feels like being in hell. Life is just like this — heaven and hell, they are actually just one thought away. It all depends on our choice.
