During one question and answer session, a student asked about his relationship with his wife.
Student: You taught me to return my mind to zero, but I am very annoyed with my wife whenever she starts to grumble. She does it every day.
Sifu: When the wind blows, will the leaves rustle?
Student: Yes, of course.
Sifu: Treat your wife’s grumbling as the rustling of leaves in the wind.
Student: I am a human, not a tree. Trees have no emotion.
Sifu: You should learn from the tree. Each time when she grumbles, treat her voice like rustling leaves.
All the students present burst into laughter.
Commentary: If we listen with a reflective mind - clear like a mirror without any labelling, then no sound has any meaning. If you give any sound a meaning, immediately we become its slave.
