Compassionate listening

Student: When working at a temple, one has to adapt to the different types of work and the temple's schedule. Especially during retreats, we are very busy, and sometimes I just want to finish the work quickly and conveniently. So, two voices appear: one says "do it this way for your own comfort"; the other says, "don’t do it this way because you will cause trouble for others". Sometimes these two voices fight with each other, and I'm not sure which one I should follow.Description: https://ssl.gstatic.com/ui/v1/icons/mail/images/cleardot.gif

Sifu: Put down both voices, return to don't know, and listen to what others are saying.

Commentary: Compassionate listening is a very important practice in zen. If you listen to your thinking, you cannot hear clearly what the world is telling you. Our thoughts become a mountain which separates us from seeing and listening to the truth as it is.
